Foo Fighters Win Weekly Audience War At Active Rock Radio

The Foo Fighters’ “Waiting on a War” (WOAW) wins another war for audience Number One at Active Rock radio. WOAW holds off Chevelle’s “Self Destructor” this week, even as the latter outspins the former again.  Both songs continue to grow through both airplay measuring methods by Mediabase (MB) via AllAccess.com, and both songs are closing the gap on their competition.

Foo Fighters Most-Heard, Chevelle Most-Spun for the Week

“Waiting on a War” gains 216,000 audience impressions from the previous tracking period to finish the week with an audience of 4.596 million.  “Self Destructor” gained 344,000 listens compared to last week, helping it move past Papa Roach’s “The Ending” for runner-up at 4.352 million impressions.  Therefore, the Foo Fighters win the audience rankings by 244,000 impressions, 128,000 less than last week.

Meanwhile, Chevelle adds 84 detections to finish the week with 2431 spins.  The Foo Fighters increase their spin count by 217 to wind up with 2294, moving them past Papa Roach who also placed number two in play count last week.  So, Chevelle maintains a 137-detection advantage over the Foo Fighters, 133 spins closer than at the end of the previous tracking week.

Active Rock’s Most-Consumed Smashes This Week

This week, classics from the somewhat recent to more distant past win the Active/Hard Rock consumption battles.  Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” and AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck” earn Top-Three placement for both the most-downloaded (Hard Rock Digital Songs/HRDS) and most-streamed songs (Hard Rock Streaming Songs/HRSS) for the week.  Disturbed’s “The Sound Of Silence” finishes Top Three in HRDS.  Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child Of Mine” earns the most streams among HRSS for the second straight week.

Black Keys’ ‘Lo/Hi’ Heads This Week’s Active Rock Airplay Chart

Following an audience increase of 523,000, the Black Keys’ “Lo/Hi” heads this week’s Mediabase Active Rock Airplay Chart, with a total of 5.675 million impressions.  This pushes “Lo/Hi” ahead of last week’s Number One Active Rock Airplay song, Disturbed’s “A Reason to Fight,” with an audience advantage of 253,000 impressions.

“A Reason to Fight” finishes the week in the runner-up slot with an Active Rock audience total of 5.422 million.  This represents an impressions decrease of 492,000 from the previous tracking period.  Three Days Grace’s “Right Left Wrong” ends this week with an audience of 5.077 million, which represents a modest increase of 25,000 impressions from the previous week.

Of note:  This week’s greatest gainer at Active Rock radio, Five Finger Death Punch’s (FFDP) “Blue on Black,” (BOB) more than doubles its audience total as it surges from 33 to 13.  “Blue on Black” gains 1.694 million impressions to finish the week with an audience of 2.876 million. 

Following a BOB remix that includes Kenny Wayne Shepherd (original version of BOB), Brantley Gilbert, and Brian May, the FFDP multi-artist compilation debuts at number two on Billboard’s Rock Songs Chart.  Estimates indicate that BOB sold around 30,000 downloads 12-18 April.

Disturbed’s Ballad Keeps Winning Fight for Active Rock Radio’s Number One

Disturbed’s ballad “A Reason to Fight” keeps winning its “Fight” for the Number One most-heard song at Active Rock Radio.  Fight has increased its impressions total another 114,000 to finish with an audience (aud) for the week at 5.888 million on Mediabase’s (MB) All Stations plus (+) Recurrents (RC) Active Rock Airplay Chart (ARAC). 

How Disturbed ‘Fight’ Stacks Up Against its Competitors

The runner up this week, Three Days Grace’s “Right Left Wrong” finished the week with 4.781 million impressions, an increase of 299,000 from last week but still placing it behind Disturbed by 1.107 impressions.  Last week’s number two, Greta Van Fleet’s “You’re the One,” drops to number four, losing 687,000 in total audience to finish with 4.205 million impressions.
